Colour Schemes for Your Wedding

Choosing a colour scheme for weddings is a common cause for concern amongst our Mrs2Be's. What we tend to find is that brides have a good idea of what main accent colour they want to use, but then struggle for a secondary colour to go with it.

So with this in mind, we put together a Quick Guide to help brides choose a wedding colour scheme for their big day.

This quick guide gives a few inspirational ideas on which colours you could put with which. Once piece of advice I would personally give is to look at Bridal Bouquets for inspiration too. Once you know what your main accent colour is, look for bridal bouquets in that accent colour and see what other colours the florist has put with it.

In the meantime take a look at the Mrs2Be Quick Guide to Wedding Colour Schemes

Will you impose a Dress Code?

We are used to the bride taking an active role in co-ordinating the outfits of the mother of the bride and the soon to be mother-in-law, but it seems there is a new trend on the up and that is to also request your guests have a dress code too!

More often than not it is something along the lines of "No ties" for the men or "Wear something pink" - but we are certainly seeing this footnote appear on the bottom of invitations more and more frequently.

What are your thoughts? Are you planning on asking your guests to wear something of a specific colour or style? We'd love to hear from you.

Wedding Photographers - Know What You Want

I have personally attended 2 x weddings this summer and the thing that stood out for me the most was the difference in the wedding photographers.

The first photographer - you knew he was there - oh boy did you know he was there. He spent hours getting the right shots, commanding who was to stand where and with whom to the point where the more elderley relatives of the bride and groom were getting ready to swing for him with their handbags!

The end result was some lovely - staged - photographs. Which if that is what you want from your photographer is great but what if that isn't what you want or what your personality dictates?

The second wedding we attended, we didn't even know their photographer was there!!! Seriously, he was clicking away but there were no staged shots, no bossing about and no irate elderly relatives!

So the moral of this story is choose your style of photographer wisely. Know exactly what you want from your photographer and then ask around. Be true to you and your husband to be's personality because if you are the sort of person who detest playing up to a camera your shots won't work out anyway. Your photos need to reflect You and Your Husband's personalities not that of your photographer!

Suited & Welly-Booted

Imagine - there you are saying your vows with friends and family around you, wearing your dream wedding dress only to find upon leaving the church the lane from the church is completed submerged and you are marooned there!

That is exactly what happened to one bride, groom & 150 of their guests near Cheltenham. A local brook had burst it's banks during the service leaving them stranded for 7 hours! The couple and their guests had to make their way to higher ground and seek refuse in a local care home where they were served tea and sandwiches!

Thanks to their wedding insurance the couple - who are currently enjoying a 2 week honeymoon in the sun - are hoping to hold another reception when they get home!

Imagine a guest arriving early - a year early!

As unbelievable as it sounds that is exactly what happened when David Barclay left his home in Canada to attend his friend's wedding in Wales! David said:

"I booked my ticket, paid 500 pounds to fly into Cardiff, got the old suit cleaned, the goatee trimmed, the head shaved -- I was going to be the belle of the ball," (source: yahoo news)

How embarassing that must have been! Do you have any embarassing wedding stories to tell? If so, drop us a line and we will add them to our Funny Wedding Stories page!

Would You Put Your Wedding Planning in the Hands of Your Family & Friends?

That's exactly what some couples who are appearing on "The Big Day" on BBC One have chosen to do.

They are not left completely in the lurch though they have expert advice on hand from the rather luscious Nick Knowles (though I think he is there more for eye candy purposes), top stylist Hannah Standing and wedding expert James Love.

This week's couple were from Blackpool and their friends and family chose to decorate a local community centre in the theme of a Las Vegas casino for their reception. The Groom looked very handsome in a purple velvet jacket chosen by the affore mentioned (luscious) Nick Knowles and the bride wore a 2nd hand wedding dress that had to be heavily tailored by a top designer in order to fit her tiny frame and be worthy of walking down the aisle in.

They had fish, chips and mushy peas for their wedding breakfast delivered to the venue by a local firm and the bride arrived at the church in a golden carriage pulled by a palamino horse.

What stood out for me was how creative people can be when budget is an issue. The table flowers were all placed in salt and pepper pots (no lids, obviously), the bar was covered in playing cards and covered in perspex and the venue looked fabulous. They also had a big band on the stage!

I thought it was lovely - really intimate! It will be interesting to see of subsequent weddings are as successful though!!!

Three Fat Brides, One Thin Dress - Gillian McKeith's

Gillian McKeith's new reign of terror begins this time on 3 brides to be! The program which started last week on Tuesday nights Channel 4, aims to help 3 "large girls" lose weight and compete to wear 1 thin wedding dress.

Who are the 3 mad women in question? Well they are Katrina who is described as "a binge-drinking, carb-craving 25-year-old Welsh WAG in waiting", Jacqueline - a 40 year old divorcee who they describe as having "an almost perfect life" apart from her weight issues and a "born-again Essex Virgin" called Lisa who is 27 years old.

The idea is that these three girls have just eight weeks in which to lose weight and improve their wellbeing and whoever achieves the best results wins the dream dress!

The lead up to a wedding is stressful enough - imagine having Gillian McKeith to contend with too! Do you think the desire to be thin on your big day would be enough to stop you from throwing in the towel or do you think the stress would just be too much to bear?
If you are a bride looking to lose weight before your big day you may be interested in Gillian McKeith's 11 week meal plan. If so you can find it here:
Don't forget to let us know how you get on.

Whirlwind Romances - Do the work long term?

With Preston and Chantelle announcing their separation - the question came to mind - do whirlwind romances ever last in this day and age?

I add "in this day and age" because in years gone by when times were very different there were many whirlwind romances that resulted in marriage during the war years, but I think society as a whole has changed now and women have become far more independant.

So here at Mrs2Be we would love to hear from anyone who has had a whirlwind romance that is resulting in marriage. What are your hopes and fears for the future?

Would You Spend £1 Million on your Wedding?

This weekend sees 4 WAG weddings : Steven Gerrard, Gary Neville, Michael Carrick and John Terry. John Terry is reported to have spent £1 Million pounds on his wedding which took place yesterday in the grounds of Blenheim Palace.

Now granted these guys earn a small fortune, but even so, if you earn't that kind of money would you spend £1 M pounds of your hard earned cash on your wedding? Do you think there comes a point when the money is simply being spent for the sake of it?

Setting and sticking to a budget can be hard and stressful - so we have put together an article to help guide you through. Wedding Budgets - How Much is Too Much?

Do you feel pressured to spend more than you want to? Do you feel pressured to live up to other people's weddings? Why not tell us what you think about this sensitive issue?

"Help me..."

Are you one of those people that gets overwhelmed by the amount of things to do, do you often come up with great ideas and then suffer the frustration of forgetting to note them down!? Stressed BrideLet's face it we've all been there and when organising a wedding it cannot be avoided! Well, to help, our friends at Busy Girls Guide have come up with some top advice for those 'world just swallow me up' moments! Some of it may seem basic, but they are small things that can make a big difference.

1. Get unstuck

Spent too long staring at the screen of your computer in a blind panic trying to motivate yourself to start the mountain of work in front of you? Staring at that pile of clothes on the floor that need washing, but can't bring yourself to do it? If so, Stop. Turn the computer off, get your trainers on & go for a short walk. Changing environments & engaging in a little activity will trigger a positive mental-shift - you'll feel much better when you get home.

2. Record it

If your mind is spinning & you have all your clearer thoughts when you're on the go (& nowhere near a pen or paper) simply invest in a dictaphone. Take it everywhere with you & when you feel the urge to make a mental list, simply say it into the dictaphone. You'll be amazed at how solutions, not problems, start to flow.

3. Have a laugh

Remember that episode of Only Fools & Horses where Delboy & Rodney dress up as Batman & Robin? What about Duncan from Blue in that yellow lycra ice skating outfit? When things are looking grim, laugher is one of the best ways to shake yourself into a more positive mood. So grab that old Friends DVD & have a giggle. Half an hour of giggling will do far more good than half an hour of fretting.

4. Have one list & limit yourself

If you're a big fan of lists - I know I am - make sure you're not becoming a victim of your own perfectionism. A list is there to brain dump & give you a brief reminder of the big things that need doing - not to make you feel guilty. If you must have a list, limit yourself to only 5 main tasks & start them straight away. You'll feel great for finally getting to the bottom of them all so quickly & will complete less significant tasks without giving them too much weight in the first place.

Great stuff!

Works of Art - disguised as Wedding Cakes!

But - this aside, the pictures on Peggy's website give you a taste of just how stunning these cakes must be. I am not sure I could bring myself to eating one, I think I would be tempted to take it home and place it on a pedestal as a piece of art!

Give Wedding Favors that Give Life

I recently read about a wonderful idea for wedding favours that could quite literally help to Give a Life.

Instead of going out and purchasing chocolates or sweets, how about giving each of your wedding guests a Charity badge?

Many charities have charity badges some are:

  • NSPCC
  • Cancer Research UK
  • Marie Curie
  • British Heart Foundation

Or there may be charities local to you such as a local Childrens' hospice or your local hospital that may have produced something like a pin or a badge that you could give.

If you have any other ideas of inspirational wedding favors, why not drop us a line? We'd love to hear from you.

We've been very busy!

Have you missed us? Sorry for the lack of blog posts but we have been busy here at Mrs2Be upgrading the website for your delectation and delight! Some of the changes have been cosmetic but some others have been behind the scenes. Hopefully though we have streamlined some areas of the website such as the wedding planning articles and the directory.

We are now offering Brides the opportunity to take advantage of the online tools for FREE! Yup - you pay yadda - zilch. All we ask in return is that you complete a slightly more comprehensive registration form, and allow us to ask some recommended suppliers to send you some information on areas of your wedding you would like information on.

The website is going from strength to strength and has been visited by over 100,000 (yes one hundred thousand!) brides since 1st January 2007!! So we must be doing something right - but now we want to do more!

Let us know what you think!

I Now Pronounce you Husband & Wife - I think!

Can you imagine going through your whole wedding planning scenario, through the big day itself and then finding out months later that you and your beloved are, in fact, not married at all??!!

It sounds like something from a movie doesn't it - or "only in America", but it happened right here in the UK in East London between October 2004 and March 200.

"The ceremonies took place at the Langtons Wedding Rooms in Hornchurch between October 2004 and March 2005.

It was not until June 2006 that the High Court ruled the marriages valid. " (source: bbc news website)

The council involved has now been ordered to pay each of the 193 couples involved £150. The couples had to wait until June 2006 before being given the green flag that they were indeed, a married couple!

Romance is Well & Truly Alive in Liverpool!

It was once reported that men from Liverpool were the most romantic in the UK! I think that Alan from Liverpool, may have gone some way to back this up.

Alan and Lisa were married last year at Liverpool Town Hall. Alan proposed to Lisa in New York - but we are not talking about him just getting down on one knee and popping the question - Oh No! Alan's proposal has to be one of the most romantic I have heard of - read Alan & Lisa's Real Life Wedding and if you think you can beat it, drop us a line here at Mrs2Be!

Wedding Bells to Chime for Liz Hurley

At long last, Liz Hurley is to be married this afternoon to her handsome beau, Arun Nayar.

The couple are to marry at Sudeley Castle, Gloucestershire and of course, the guest list will be a star studded one said to include Sir Elton John and Kate Moss.

Liz and Arun have chosen to have a marquee reception, though of course this will be no 'ordinary' marquee - we are talking about a marquee that will be the size of Wembley Stadium!

You will have to go out and buy Hello! magazine in the coming weeks because, of course, Hello! magazine has paid £2m for the couples wedding picture rights though it is said that Liz will be wearing her trademark Versace!

Kerry Katona Marries on Valentines Day at Gretna Green

Some would say - how much more romantic could it get? A wedding on Valentines day at Gretna Green? It was originally intended to be a surprise apparently, as Kerry's now hubby, Mark Croft had intended to wisk her off to Dumfrieshire for a Valentines Break having secretly arranged for them to be married at Gretna Green, but the cat was let out of the bag last week.

So - did anyone else get married this valentines day? Or were their any marriage proposals? If so, drop us a line and let us know!

Beware when Buying Engagement Rings on Ebay

I was informed today, of an occurence where someone purchased a very good quality Cubic Zirconia solitaire ring set in high quality gold, from ebay for arround £90.00 and then promptly re-advertised the ring as a Real Diamond Solitaire for £600.00 and sold it!

So I wanted to give you some advice about buying expensive jewellery on Ebay!

1. Try where possible to purchase from either a Power Seller or a shop via Ebay Express.

2. Check to see if they advertise a phone number and personally I would also give them a ring and speak to them if you are parting with large sums of money.

3. Check their feedback but remember when they are selling hundreds of items, they may not have 100% so be sure to read the comments first.

4. Never, ever send cash for a large sum. In fact I would not advise you to pay any way other than by credit card to give yourself some level of protection.

5. Check to see if the seller provides any form of Money Back Guarantee.

Mrs2Be Recommends Nuttalls of Chester
I have personally worked with one Ebay Jewellery Retailer and I can certainly vouch for their Integrity so if you want a recommendation then Mrs2Be is happy to recommend Nuttalls of Chester who sell a wide range of jewellery including engagement rings and wedding rings. This is one of their ruby and diamond engagement rings.

Ex-Demo Wedding Dress

We here at Mrs2Be try to understand what our visitors want and need and one of the things that has become more and more evident is that girls want the wedding of their dreams without breaking the bank!

So, we are trying hard to locate wedding dresses that are less than the high street price either by being ex-shop demonstration dresses, or perhaps being once-loved dresses.

Once such dress we have for you is by the wedding dress designer "No Ordinary Bride" this particular dress is a size 10 and is a strapless, fitted dress with a fishtail train. The dress is beautifully detailed with beading and embroidery in white. It would no doubt benefit from being professionally dry cleaned but at £255.00 instead of £500.00 a bride who is getting married on a budget will still look a million dollars! For details on it please click here

A Word of Warning before you Buy a Dress

Following a conversation recently with a bridal gown retailer I was shocked to hear that some brides are experiencing very shoddy workmanship in their wedding gowns where the gowns have been purchased for the Far East.

Obviously we are not saying that all gowns produced in the Far East are of inferior quality, but the story that has been passed on to me is that when the Bridal Gown shop offered to steam clean this Bride's dress for free after she had spent a considerable amount of money with them on other wedding items, they found the decorative items were simply melting and falling off. This was due to the fact that they had been glued on!

This is just one story, another was of a poor Groom2Be who literally pushed his distraught Mrs2Be through this shop door and asked them to "sort her out" as she was beside herself having bought a dress from a popular online auction site from the Far East and being appalled with her dress.

So basically, whilst we are all for saving money particularly when you are getting married on a budget, if you are paying £4.99 for a wedding dress (as some of them are advertised!), be clear about what you are getting for your money and have a back up plan!

If you have experienced a wedding dress nightmare - drop us a line!

Do you have a Wedding Dress to sell?

Our sister site which is all about wedding dresses - experiences high levels of traffic and so we have decided it would be the perfect place for people to sell their "once worn" wedding dresses and accessories, or even for retailers to sell "ex-demo" wedding dresses and accessories.

So, if you have a wedding dress that you would like to advertise for sale, drop us a line and we will advertise it for you for the ridiculously low introductory price of just £15.00!!

Jennifer apparently uses SUDZZ FX Cashmere® Cleansing treatment to condition her hair. Cashmere is a 100% Sulfate-Free cleansing system and I have been reading more and more recently about how sulphate-free hair products are the way to go. Cashmere is vegetable vegetable derived and is more gentle and non-damaging. Sulfates are very harsh and can actually strip your hair of its natural oils which can leave it looking dry and damaged.

Well, if it’s good enough for Jennifer Anniston – it’s good enough for me!

Wedding Dress Trends for 2007

While certain more traditional wedding dress designs will always be around, there is always a sway toward a few particular looks.

It seems the vintage feel is still around for 2007 which makes for a very sophisticated look. We have investigated what we feel to be the main wedding dress trends for 2007 over on our sister site about wedding dresses. So why not pop over and take a look. There are a couple of beautiful gowns featured by Charlotte Balbier and SincerityBridal.

Something for Hubby2Be

It can be hard sometimes to find things that inspire you and I always think poor old Hubby2Be (or Mr2Be) is left out a little. So we have been doing some digging around and have found this company KJ Beckett - Luxury Accessories for Men.

They sell a whole variety of things at KJ Beckett including Socks, Cufflinks, Ties, Wallets, Bow Ties, Pens and more! Free UK delivery and do actually have a section on their website dedicated to weddings and grooms. My favourite are the pink silk ties. They have an offer on their site at the moment where if you purchase 5 ties, you will get the 6th one free.

There are some pretty funky cufflinks and socks too - well, who says he has to wear black socks on his big day!

Kate Moss & Pete Doherty in Buddhist Ceremony

It has been reported that Kate Moss & Pete Doherty have formalised their relationship in a ceremony whilst on holiday in Thailand. Whilst some are trying to say that this ceremony was in fact a marriage ceremony, their 'people' are denying any marriage between them and are simply stating that they are on holiday.

They have allegedly had some kind of ceremony performed on the beach which involved Buddhist prayers, blessed water and intertwined flower garlands. Of course these types of ceremonies would not constitute a legally bound marriage in the UK.
