Marry Me Films tells you why You NEED a Videographer

We were really pleased and excited to be asked by Nicky at Mrs2Be to write a guest blog, as we love talking and sharing our passion for filming weddings. We are Sara & Tony Williams, husband and wife for over 12 years and owners of Marry Me Films. We pondered for quite a while about what to write, obviously we are biased but it always amazes us when we find out that couples don‘t want to have their wedding day filmed! Why wouldn’t you want to capture forever your memories in such vivid clarity of one of the best days of your life?

What price would you put on your most treasured and precious memories? We appreciate that a wedding film is an additional expense and that most people don’t have an unlimited budget, unless your names are Kate & Wills and you are getting married later this year! But what we would ask you to consider is, can you really afford NOT to have your wedding filmed?

The Wedding Film of Kelly & Matthew from Marry Me Films on Vimeo.

Very early on in our careers we realised the importance of forever memories, from personal experience. Many years before we started Marry Me Films, my little sister asked us to film her wedding as Tony is a BBC trained working broadcast camera guy. It was a fantastic day just like many of the weddings we film. Unfortunately just two months after the wedding our beloved Grandma suddenly passed away. Whilst at first it was very hard and painful to watch, we now have incredible footage of her on one of the happiest days of her life. To all our family this is priceless. We never understand in this day and age when the majority of most people’s lives revolve around moving images on television and films that you wouldn’t want to view your own wedding day this way. You won’t just want to look at pictures of the Royal Wedding when you will be able to watch the live televised event!

One of the things we hear most often from friends and family of Brides to be at wedding shows is that they regret not having their own wedding filmed. The day goes by so quickly, there will be lots of incredible moments that you won’t see. All the nerves and excitement of getting ready with your mum and bridesmaids. The Groom’s arrival at the ceremony venue, him anxiously waiting and greeting all of your guests. The teary looks of joy from your family and friends when you arrive. The first moment your eyes meet as you walk down the aisle. All the lovely intimate looks that you will share with each other during your ceremony. What your guests get up to while you are off having your photos taken.

You can’t be everywhere and there is so much happening that you can’t possibly take it all in. We have Brides & Grooms who after seeing their wedding films only four weeks later are really surprised by how much they have forgotten about the day. The speeches are a prefect example, how wonderful would it be to see and hear forever your father reminisce about your childhood and tell you how proud he is of the person you have become. Capturing your new husband profess his love for you in front of all the people you both care for most in the world. How much he loves you and how happy he is that you agreed to become his wife. I have lost count of how many times I have had tears in my eyes when filming speeches at one our weddings!

As with everything in life you have to prioritise what you think is important. Most couples spend a fortune on the venue, dress, photographs, flowers, venue dressing, the cake, invitations, chocolate fountains, ice sculptures, even owls delivering the rings. There are a hundred and one other things you can have as part of a modern wedding. After all that effort and expense that goes into a wedding, you’ll want to experience the day as fully as possible forever. The day will be over all too quickly and all you will have left are your memories. Think about what is important and essential to your day and spend your money wisely in areas that will have lasting value.

An expertly and passionately filmed wedding film should make you cry, it should make you laugh out loud, give you goose bumps and make your tummy turn over. A well made wedding film not only captures what happens on the whole day, but it should tell a story, ebb and flow and build like a broadcast programme. A lovely addition to your memories is to have guests leave a video message. We normally film these after the wedding breakfast, before the evening reception starts. Not only is it a bit of entertainment for your guests but it gives them the opportunity to leave heartfelt messages of congratulations. They can be quite poignant and emotional from your parents, grandparents and family members but they can be very funny and entertaining from your friends. They are also a lovely surprise for the Bride & Groom as it’s the one part of the day that you definitely won’t have seen.

If you have any concerns or questions you would like us to answer please do not hesitate to get in touch. Quite simply, we produce memorable, unique and beautiful wedding films, crafted individually to each Bride & Groom. We love finding out what you have planned, talking through all the little details of your day and seeing the personal touches that make your wedding day and relationship so unique and individual to you and so very special for us to capture. We would urge every Bride & Groom to be to have their wedding filmed, even if you don’t want us, definitely have it filmed, as you may very well regret it otherwise!

We hope you enjoyed reading this little insight into our world as much as we have enjoyed writing it. Sara & Tony xxx

Table Plans

Nicky of Sugared & Spiced Venue Dressing demonstrates different ways in which to guide your guests to their tables.

Table plans can be made out of just about anything these days. The traditional table plan is still very much in existence but there are so many other ways to display your table plan and really the only boundary is your imagination.

These table plan cards are by Cards by Sophie and feature pretty pearl hearts. The theme is Hollwyood Greats.

Vintage and Shabby Chic is still very much en vogue this year in the wedding world and so there are props galore out there that you can use as a table plan.

Here we have used a shabby chic style bird cage which would work beautifully in a marquee or a venue where you are able to hang it.

The next example adds a touch of boudoir glamour to the proceedings in the form of a large ornate mirror!

I feel a word of warning is required here - you would have to ensure the mirror was properly secured!

Another point to note is to be mindful of that fact that some of your guests may well be wearing short skirts or dresses so try not to put your table plan cards too low down! It could make for an unfortunate situation which could so easily be caught on camera! Oh the shame!

Plas Maenan Country House - Real Life Wedding

A big thank you to Tony of Tony Fanning Photography for sending us his real life wedding images.

This wedding took place at the beautiful Plas Maenan Country House. Plas Maenan Country House is a restored Edwardian mansion situated in the Conwy Valley, North Wales and is available exclusively for your wedding.

Tony Fanning is based in Colwyn Bay, North Wales and covers North Wales and the North West. Tony describes himself as "a husband, a father and a chocaholic!" - we like his style! His photography style is contemporary and relaxed.

Top Tip: Check out the bride's footwear! Wedges are so much more comfortable for a full day of standing on your feet - yet still give you the height and the glamour you desire.
