We are getting married at the end of may this year and money has been extremely tight with me being out of work after having a baby and 2 months later becoming seriously ill for several months. We want the big day to be as personal and unique as possible so we have spent hours creating special things for the ceremony and reception venue that tie everything together and make the day look more expensive than it is! We collected hundreds of old jars, tied ribbon round them and fixed with bows before turning them all into beautiful homemade candles. Handmade champagne bath bombs bound in simple hessian squares and tied with the same ribbon as the candles have made beautiful favours for the ladies. The ribbon has been integrated in the order of service and invitations too which we made. Our fave touch is the pram our eldest daughter will use to push our youngest down the aisle. We got hold of a 100yr old dolls pram and spent hours stripping it, painting it and reupholstering it and it is absolutely beautiful. People will be looking at the pram and the gorgeous baby rather than the bride! All the hard work has taken months of late nights and lots of patience but with such a crappy 12 months we stuck at it because our wedding is what's kept us going. My fiance works 6 days a week, has to look after all 3 of us (while im still poorly) and helps with all the 'making' every evening. Despite our recent bad fortune i consider myself extremely lucky.

I am not having a wedding cake at all on my wedding day. Most people don't seem to eat it anyway - so we decided to dispense with the tradition as a whole!
