Winter Wedding Ideas

With the long nights drawing in and the 2010 winter brides already hot on the heels of planning their big day, the Mrs2Be office have been thinking about winter weddings. Here are some of our tips:

Use pine cones as place cards. Spray them white or silver or even glitter and insert card with the name of each guest into the cones. We love this one as a really cheap alternative as well!

Create a magical atmosphere by hanging fairy lights in the trees at your venue. You can also use these as cheap centrepieces for your wedding breakfast as they look fab in vases big or small.

Add some winter warmth to the menu with a soup, a hog roast or a hot pot and offer mulled wine or hot chocolate to guests as they hang around for the photos. This is a great way to keep the cockles warmed and the patience running high!

Decorations for winter wedding tables needn't be expensive . White is a great classic look and combines with reds or golds creates a striking look. Use bright red berries in a bowl, twigs or floating candles to add to the outdoor feel.

Marshmallows are a must at a winter wedding. Either go the whole hog and order a chocolate fountain with marshmallows, roast them at an open fire at the venue or simply float them on the after dinner coffee.

When it comes to a winter wedding, think royal colours - reds and blues and if you can incorporate velvet suits and fur wraps all the better!

Crystal decorations are popular for a winter wedding. They not only look stunning but create a magical feel linking in to the overall winter snow and ice theme.

Candles are a must at a winter wedding and there's no place that they can't be used (venue permitting of course!). Candles in a church add to the atmosphere, especially during the darker winter days. Used at your venue candles will add romance, especially if used into the evening.

If your budget allows, why not book a choir and if your wedding is close to Christmas have them singing carols either at the church or as guests arrive at the reception.

Sprayed branches make excellent decoration at a winter wedding and are another cheaper alternative to extras such as bay trees. Use these as centrepieces or as decoration around the church or the venue to add winter sparkle.

Happy Planning!
